Harvard Business Review
For this project, I was commissioned once again by Harvard Business Review to create a series of illustrations for their article titled "What the 'Like' Button Can Teach Us About Innovation." The story explores the unpredictable and often messy process behind one of the internet’s most recognizable icons, the thumbs-up “like” button, and how its evolution reveals a more collaborative, accidental nature of innovation than most realize.

Process

For this project, I was commissioned once again by Harvard Business Review to create a series of illustrations for their article titled "What the 'Like' Button Can Teach Us About Innovation." The story explores the unpredictable and often messy process behind one of the internet’s most recognizable icons, the thumbs-up “like” button, and how its evolution reveals a more collaborative, accidental nature of innovation than most realize.

The visual direction focused on capturing the chaotic yet vibrant spirit of the innovation process. I used the thumbs-up icon as the central motif, surrounded by a playful assortment of reaction symbols drawn from various platforms, hearts, talk bubbles, smiley faces, and more. The composition was designed to feel layered, dynamic, and energetic, echoing the article’s message that great ideas rarely arrive in a straight line. Each element was carefully modeled and arranged to evoke that sense of creative clutter, bright, bold, and unmistakably digital.
